y speak won as the best public affairs program for the second year in a row.. (thank you ust!! salamat talaga!) and our executive producer and my good friend mori rodriguez said in his acceptance speech, "we put so much work and effort into making the show better everytime, and at the end of the day, its all worth it, especially when we are given recognition by the very people to whom we dedicate each episode of y speak."
studio 23 won as the most youth-friendly channel, and our creative on-air director at 23, edson aguiflor, stressed in his speech how the skills and values he learned from ust are exactly the skills and values that make his work possible now.
maalaala mo kaya won as best drama anthology for the third time, and ma'am charo santos-concio accepted the award. she appealed to their school's head that the show will send researchers to the campus to try to find inspiring, beautiful stories from the ust students. "father, pwede po ba?" she asked with pure charm. "pwede daw!" she exclaimed. and all the students cheered.
"this award means so much because we've been on the air for decades now and we have never been given this kind of recognition," a father from the family rosary crusade said in his acceptance speech for the best catholic program award. "and always keep in mind," he said as an ending to his speech, "the family that prays together.." then the whole auditorium said in unison, "stays together!"
the correspondents won as best news documentary program and abner mercado was there to accept the award. "two decades ago.. nag-exam ako dito.. pero hindi ninyo ako tinanggap!" he said in jest. the whole auditorium laughed and cheered him on. "ang kursong in-applyan ko? journalism!" he added. everyone laughed even harder. "sabi ko sa sarili ko, babalikan ko din kayo. at ngayon nga, nakabalik na ako, may award pa."
arnold clavio won as best newscaster for the second year as well. to keep up with the jolly spirit of the night, a thomasian himself, igan raises his award and says, "sorry abner, mataas standards namin eh." the whole auditorium roared with laughter and applause, and so did abner.
maging sino ka man was a great hit that night. (i myself looooove that soap!! ibang klase!! as in parang pelikula na teleserye!! graaabe what a story!! and the acting!! wow!! ..okay tama na bianca, haha.) both bea alonzo and john lloyd cruz won as best actress and actor in a drama mini-series. john lloyd accepts his award with a line that gave him a standing ovation, "sa lahat ng nagmamahal katulad ni eli! para sa inyo ito."
